NEW DELHI: Senior faculty members and resident doctors at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here have criticised the latest order issued by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss, that “prohibits faculty, chiefs of department, resident doctors, nurses and karamcharis among others from holding press conferences or talking to the media”. Calling it yet another attempt by the Minister to hit at the democratic and autonomous structure of the Institute, the employees claimed that they would fight the order to the very end. “Truth cannot be stopped by these gag orders. India is a democratic country and this goes against the very fabric of our Constitution. All Indians have the right of expression and speech. We don’t accept this order,” said AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association president Kumar Harsh. The memorandum, issued on Thursday, has advised all members of the faculty/officers/staff/resident doctors not to talk to the press/media or hold press conference unless authorised for it. Conduct rulesIf anyone is found violating the order, necessary action under the conduct rules would be initiated against the person concerned on the merit of the case, said the latest order.
