BHUBANESWAR: As everyone has predicted, the acclaimed sand sculptor Sudarsan Patnaik’s ongoing exhibition of the sand sculptor of Jesus on Puri beach has got an entry into the Limca Book of Records. “I received the official confirmation from the Limca Book of Record’s senior editor Arthy Muthanna Singh that my work will be included in the Limca Book of Records in its 2009 edition as the largest sand sculpture of Jesus”, Sudarshan told The Hindu. “It’s lovely”“The sculpture is lovely”, the letter from the editor stated. Sudarsan sculpted the biggest sand sculptor of Jesus on the beach in Puri on the occasion of Christmas celebrations. His image included the sculptor of Mother Mary and Santa Clause and was 60 feet long with a width of 30 feet and height of 22 feet. It required 600 tonnes of sand including coloured sand. The master sculptor was assisted by 15 of his disciples at the Golden Sand Art Institute of Puri including six girls and it took the team 25 hours to build up the mammoth structure. The record making sculpture is on display till January 1 and thousands of tourists and pilgrims who are in the temple town have been thronging to the beach everyday for a glimpse of the marvellous structure. So far Sudarsan has participated in 34 international sand sculpture championships and has won a number of accolades for the country. He had created the world’s longest sand Santa Claus last year that has already claimed a berth in the Limca Book of Records.
