STRANDED: Trucks parked on both sides of the National Highway at Zuzuvadi, near Hosur, on Saturday.

Hosur: Despite the stretch from Athipalli on the inter-state border to Hosur being converted into a four-lane, the traffic congestion caused by the heavy vehicles at the incoming and outgoing checkposts remains chaotic owing to lack of enforcement.

As Hosur is situated on the border of Tamil Nadu all goods-carrying vehicles that enter and leave the State are checked.

For the outgoing vehicles, there remains two checkposts manned by the department of RTO and Commercial Taxes while for the incoming vehicles there exists as many as three checkposts belonging to the departments of RTO, Commercial Taxes, and Police.

“On an average about 20,000 light and heavy commercial vehicles pass through the incoming and outgoing checkposts leading to frequent traffic snarls. With all the checkposts located at Zuzuvadi, heavy vehicles are parked haphazardly on both sides for a thorough check. For that matter vehicles without proper documents are detained at the checkposts for days in a stretch adding to the existing woes” according to the president of Krishnagiri District Small and Tiny Industries Association G.S. Ganesh.

With goods vehicles parked on the entire stretch from Zuzuvadi to Hosur, two-wheeler riders resort to taking the wrong lane leading to frequent accidents.

The district administration should deploy more number of police personnel. According to a senior police officer “with rectified spirit and IMFL being smuggled from Karnataka through this entry point the police are extra cautious leading to a thorough check of all vehicles. Officials are forced to detain certain vehicles due to lack of proper documents or bills. Though a separate space has been marked on the four-lane for parking trucks the rule is always followed in abeyance. A computerised integrated checkpost similar to the one being set up at Athipalli on the Karnataka border is the need of the hour.
