KOCHI: A constituency-level public committee to check the use of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs has decided to step up awareness campaigns as New Year celebrations gather momentum. The committee, which met here, was presided over by K.V. Thomas, MLA. Toddy shops can function between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., foreign liquor shops can operate between 10 a.m. and 9 a.m., bar hotels, clubs and beer parlours can operate between 6 a.m. and 12 midnight. Liquor shall not be served in clubs that have not been issued licence by the Excise Commissioner. All liquor shops and bars will remain closed on January 1. Those with information about illegal sale of liquor should alert either Excise or police at phone numbers 2390657 (Excise Division Office, Ernakulam), 2393121 (Excise Circle Office, Ernakulam), 2392283 (Excise Range Office, Ernakulam), 2785060 (Excise Range Office, Thripunithura), 100 (Police Control Room) or 1090 (Crime Stopper).
