H.D. Deve Gowda BANGALORE: Expressing dismay at the propaganda by some political parties that the Janata Dal (Secular) would no longer be the force it was, party president and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Saturday said: “Let there be elections, I will show my strength.” “I know some political parties are trying to portray the Assembly elections as a contest between only the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. But wait till the elections, I will show my strength”, he said at a meeting of the party women’s wing members here. Taking a dig at the BJP, he said its leaders were under the illusion that they would come to power. “They are planning to hold their national executive committee meeting in Bangalore to show their strength. We will also show our strength,” Mr. Deve Gowda remarked. He asked the women’s wing to ensure that each district had a minimum of 2,000 members. Mr. Deve Gowda held discussions with leaders from several district units of the party, besides the Seva Dal of the party on Saturday on the steps to be taken for strengthening the party. The Janata Dal (S) supremo said the elections were likely to be held in March or April. But the Janata Dal (S) was ready to face the elections at any time. Party State unit president Merajuddin Patel asked the Seva Dal to spread itself to all parts of the State. The Seva Dal should have a minimum of 200 to 300 members in each district, he said. RallyThe party has decided to organise a huge rally of its women’s wing members in March. According to sources in the party, about 50,000 women members are expected to take part in the rally planned in Bangalore. Mr. Deve Gowda said that a minimum of 2,000 women members from each district would take part in the proposed rally.
