Plea on rice distribution

Kochi: The Kerala State Rice Mill Owners’ Association has demanded that the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation should begin the distribution of rice brought from other States only after ensuring that the rice produced in the State was fully supplied. At a press conference here on Saturday, association president K.K. Karnan said the action of the State government of importing rice from other States and selling it at subsidised price in the open market would force the mill owners to close down their units. The association president also demanded exemption of sales tax imposed on the sale of boiled rice bags.
