Special Correspondent

Iit is being propagated in Tamil Nadu that there is a big problem in Malaysia

CHENNAI: There is no problem involving Tamils in Malaysia as is being made out in Tamil Nadu, Malaysian Minister for Public Works S. Samy Vellu said on Saturday.

Releasing the 24 volumes of N.M. Venkatasamy Nattar, Mr. Samy Vellu said it was being propagated in Tamil Nadu that there was a big problem in Malaysia. “Rest assured, there is no such problem there.”

As for the books, he said many more such explanatory and reference material should be published in Tamil as it would make literature easy to read and understand. If a Tamil forgot his language then he was not entitled to identify himself as Tamil.

Thangam Thennarasu, Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education, pointing out that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had passed an order stating that State libraries would purchase minimum 1,000 copies of deserving works, hoped that the present collection too would be purchased in large numbers.

Publishers commended

Higher Education Secretary K. Ganesan commended the publishers for selecting rare works for publication. A Malaysian publisher, A. Sothinathan, lamented that selling even 1,000 copies of reputed literary works was a difficult proposition in Tamil Nadu.
