CHENNAI: All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa has wished success to a rally, being organised by the Ramasethu Raksha Manch in Delhi on December 30, in support of preserving the Ramar Sethu. In a letter to Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Ashok Singhal on Saturday, Ms. Jayalalithaa said right from the day the Ramar Sethu bridge demolition issue came into focus, she was issuing statements pointing out how its destruction would be a grave threat to flora and fauna of the region. When her government was in power it had refused environmental clearance to the Sethusamudram Canal Project despite pressure from the Centre. Besides, Ramar Sethu was of immeasurable sentimental value to millions of people in India and Hindus all over the world. The structure was worthy of protection from a historical, ecological and archaeological standpoint, Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
