CHENNAI: The Agriculture Department has been restructured to provide technological assistance and subsidies to farmers in one place. The restructure will help farmers to get necessary information about agriculture, horticulture and seeds at the block office itself. According to an official release, for the restructure, the existing three-tier system of administration — district, taluk and block — was converted into two-tier system district and block. To remove the stagnation in promotion to higher posts for the department staff, the government has relaxed rules and promoted 33 agriculture deputy directors, 93 assistant agriculture directors, and 509 agriculture officers. In the current year alone 2,354 departmental employees were promoted. The Government hopes that the employees would work for the speedy implementation of various welfare schemes, so that the benefit of the schemes reached the farmers. — Special Correspondent
