THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Prime Minister’s Adviser for National Security, M.K. Narayanan, on Saturday expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Pakistan and said that India now had to take extra precautions to insulate itself against the tendencies being witnessed in the neighbouring country. “Our neighbourhood is [turning] dangerous. We have to guard ourselves against the forces of asymmetric warfare and terrorism,” he said while receiving from Chief Justice of the Supreme Court K.G. Balakrishnan this year’s Sree Chithira Tirunal Award for outstanding service to the nation. The award is instituted by a trust in the name of the monarch of the erstwhile Travancore State, the late Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. Mr. Narayanan said that India had inherent strength in overcoming such tendencies because of the vibrant democratic system in place. Her all inclusive democratic system ensured certain balance at every level of the society in a milieu of multi-ethnicity, multi-cultural tradition, multi-languages and remarkable pluralism. And India’s judiciary was the bulwark, he added.
