President offers worship at Tirumala

FIRST VISIT: President Pratibha Patil at the Tirumala temple on Saturday. Her husband Devisingh Shekhawat is to her right.

TIRUMALA: President Pratibha Patil on Saturday offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple here. She was accompanied by her husband Devisingh Shekhawat, son Rajendra Singh Shekhawat, daughter Jyothi Rathore and other family members on her maiden visit.

At the main entrance to the temple, Ms. Patil was received with the traditional temple honours. The priest honoured her with the sacred ‘silk vastram.’ TTD Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy presented the prasadams to Ms. Patil.

Earlier, on her arrival at the Padmavathi guest house here, the President was accorded a ceremonial reception. After darshan, she reached Tirupati from where she flew back to Hyderabad in a special aircraft. Security arrangements for her were elaborate.
