2 police districts reconstituted

BHUBANESWAR: Two days before the new police commissionerate system comes into force, the State government on Saturday finalised different appointments and reconstituted Khurda and Cuttack police districts.

Binay Kumar Behera, IPS officer of the 1982 batch, was formally appointed as the Police Commissioner of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack with immediate effect while Deputy Inspector General of Bhubaneswar Y. B Khurania will be the new additional commissioner of police. The government made Khurda Superintendent of Police Amitabh Thakur as Deputy Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack SP Soumendra Priyadarshi as the new DCP of Cuttack zone. S. Saini, who was SP of Sundargarh, has been appointed as DCP headquarters. Amitendra Nath Sinha, who was SP of Gajapati was given charge of SP Cuttack (Rural) while Ramesh Chandra Mohanty would take charge of Khurda police district. The state government sent S. N. Satyanarayan Bhoi in place of Mr. Sinha. U. Ramarao, SP Koraput, has been appointed as SP Boudh.

Commandant of Seventh Battalion will be DCP armed police while principal of traffic institute will act as DCP training.

Sub-divisions

Under the Orissa Urban Police Act, 2003 the State Government constituted divided twin cities into two police districts and one traffic district and divided the districts into sub-divisions within the jurisdiction of the Police Commissionerate. While Bhubaneswar zone would have five subdivisions, Cuttack zone would have four. The traffic district would consist of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack Sub-Division and NH Sub-Division. The 7th Battalion of the Orissa Special Armed Police stationed at Bhubaneswar will be under the administrative control of the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The battalion will function as the Armed Wing of the Police Commissionerate.

Similarly, Traffic Training Institute at Bhubaneswar will be under administrative control of the Police Commissionerate.
