Assault on Tahsildar alleged

Special Correspondent

ANANTAPUR: B. Gopal, Tahsildar, in-charge of Kambadur mandal in Anantapur district, was allegedly assaulted by the group of former sarpanch Timmarayudu at a gram sabha in Mulakalur on Saturday.

According to reports, the supporters of Timmarayudu, who belonged to TDP, demanded the officials to announce the list of beneficiaries under Deepam scheme. Unruly scenes were witnessed when the Tahsildar asked former sarpanch to walk out of meeting.

The Tahsildar lodged a complaint with the police accusing Timmarayudu and five others of assaulting and abusing him. The accused surrendered before the police in the evening.

Meanwhile, the supporters of former sarpanch denied the charge that they had manhandled the Tahsildar. However, they said women had questioned the officials the unfair practice adopted in the selection of beneficiaries. Inspector B. Srinivasulu is investigating the case.
