“Regularisation exercise appears to be a stunt of Govt.”

Staff Reporter

Accused of not telling people about announcement of liberal norms

NEW DELHI: Though the Union Government came out with an announcement on liberal norms for land rules pertaining to the Capital’s unauthorised colonies on October 5 this year, the Delhi Government instead of informing the people about these came out with advertisements on November 14 which, while ignoring the Centre’s announcement, listed the more stringent year 2004 rules for inviting layout plans and applications from residents of these colonies.

Pointing out this major oversight and anomaly in the Delhi Assembly on Friday, Saket MLA Vijay Jolly said it appeared from this incident that the Delhi Government was not serious about regularising the Capital’s 1,539 unauthorised colonies.

“A stunt”

Mr. Jolly said this lacuna had been perpetrated by the Urban Development Department of the Delhi Government and the episode put a question mark on the exercise of regularisation. “The regularisation exercise appears to be a stunt of the Delhi Government in an election year,” he charged.

However, the BJP leader said when the Centre had relaxed the norms for regularisation, the seeking of fresh applications and layout plans from the residents of these unauthorised colonies appeared completely unjustified.

Serious steps needed

“This is only leading to harassment of the residents of these colonies,” the BJP leader said , adding that the Delhi Government should soon take serious steps to get all the unauthorised colonies such as Sangam Vihar regularised so that their residents are able to enjoy better civic facilities.
