Security sought at girls’ hostels
Special Correspondent
Many hostels had no compound walls, gates or basic amenities
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh BC Welfare Association has demanded provision of two watchmen at every girls’ hostel in the State.
Lack of protection at BC, SC, ST girls’ hostels was leading to increasing atrocities against girl students, said Association president R.Krishnaiah citing the recent incident at SC hostel inmate at Nandigama in Krishna district. In the last three years, as many as 64 atrocities were reported against the hostel inmates that were brought to Government’s notice.
Many hostels had no compound walls, gates nor amenities like toilets and bathrooms making girls vulnerable to assaults by anti-social elements, Mr. Krishnaiah said and demanded security measures at all the hostels.
The Students Federation of India also demanded State Government to provide good protection at all the Government and private girls’ hostels.
Stern punishments
The eve-teasers should be awarded stern punishments and a vigil should be kept on the functioning of the hostels, said SFI State secretary K. Harikishore.
