Minute details: Students learning the nuances of painting at the camp in Pudukottai. PUDUKOTTAI: For N. Suriyakala, a student of Raniar Government Higher Secondary School in the town, the 10-day free ‘cultural camp’ in progress here has come in handy to develop her talent in painting. It is helping her understand minute details in giving the ‘shade’ and ‘background’ in oil colour, water colour and wax colour. Similar is the case with another student from SFS Matriculation Higher Secondary School, N. Sathoshkumar, who learns ‘Silambattam’ at the camp. Though he has been practising this martial art for the past five years, it was at this camp that he could understand more about his wrong steps. The camp, jointly organised by Inner-Wheel Club of Pudukottai, Rotary Club of Midtown and Rotary Club of Midtown, aims to nurture talent of students during their half-yearly holidays. They are being trained in ‘silambattam,’ painting, vocal, ‘mridangam,’ keyboard and other fine arts. Teachers or masters in the respective fields are the resource persons. “It is painting that has attracted a large number of about 60 students,” says the president of Inner-Wheel Club of Pudukottai, Anuradha Srinivasan. Good responseThe camp will identify students’ talent and nurture the same. The response has been more overwhelming this year than the earlier occasions, she said. The resource persons, M. Ayyappa and M. Rajappa, who impart training in painting, said that apart from learning the fundamental principles of drawing, students evinced keen interest in learning knife painting, Thanjavur painting and glass painting. The camp, which commenced on December 23, will come to a close on New Year’s Day.
