It takes up issues of personal, vehicle and housing loans Association plans to open more helplines BANGALORE: Harassed customers of private banks, often abused and pressured by the recovery agents, now have a helpline. In an effort to educate such customers, the Finance Customers’ Association of India (FCAI) on Thursday launched a helpline (22129894) in Bangalore. It will be open on weekdays. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, general secretary of the association C.V. Giddappa said: “FCAI will take up issues of the customers of financial institutions in respect of personal loans, vehicle loans and housing loans.” There were many customers who decided to end their life because of harassment by recovery agents hired by the banks, and in many cases the instalment amount ran to just a few thousands, he added. “The aim of the association is to prevent such suicides and instil confidence among the customers to face the situation. We intend to open more helplines. We had discussions with government agencies,” Mr. Giddappa said. He said that the Credit Card Holders Association of India, a fraternal organisation of FCAI, completed six years. It was helping the credit cardholders and creating awareness among public about the use of credit cards.
