Enquiry sought into ‘shoddy’ arrangements

No State funeral organised for PJR as promised No appropriate vehicle provided for carrying body
HYDERABAD: APCC general secretary G. Niranjan on Saturday urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to order an enquiry into the ‘shoddy’ arrangements made by the government for the funeral of P. Janardhan Reddy.
Only police honours
In a statement on Saturday he said district in-charge Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir had given them to understand that a State funeral would be organised, but to the surprise of family and supporters, only police honours were accorded.
Officials failed to provide an appropriate vehicle for carrying the body, he said. The security arrangements at Gandhi Bhavan collapsed and hence the body could be kept there only for a few minutes against the original plan of keeping it for two hours to enable people to pay their homage.
The situation was no better at the Amberpet crematorium where close colleagues of Janardhan Reddy found it very difficult. Congress leaders, he said, were extremely unhappy at the situation in the crematorium.
