Arrangements made for public to pay homage to PJR go haywire with police losing control over surging mourners HYDERABAD: Confusion and chaos reigned supreme at Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress party headquarters, on Saturday when the body of Khairatabad MLA P. Janardhan Reddy was brought there for people to pay their homage. The elaborate arrangements went haywire due to the unprecedented turnout of people for the funeral procession. Even before the funeral procession reached the party headquarters, thousands of mourners thronged the place. All hell broke loose as the flower bedecked van carrying the body reached Gandhi Bhavan. Van surroundedPeople jostled and pushed aside the police personnel to take a final glimpse of their leader. Grief-stricken supporters surrounded the van making it difficult to shift the body into Gandhi Bhavan for nearly 20 minutes. Amid the chaos, the body was returned to the vehicle and the funeral procession winded its way to the Amberpet crematorium. Several Congress leaders could not enter Gandhi Bhavan. Union Ministers – S. Jaipal Reddy, M. M. Pallam Raju and Panabaka Lakshmi; State Ministers Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, M. Mukesh, Md. Ali Shabbir, Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy, J. Ratnakar Rao, S. Chandrasekhar, R. Damodar Reddy, government’s special representative in New Delhi Mallu Ravi, Sanatnagar MLA Marri Sashidhar Reddy, former PCC president K. Keshava Rao and in-charge president G. S. Rao, Telugu Desam Party Rajya Sabha member M. V. Mysoora Reddy, Communist Party of India secretary K. Narayana and MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLA Nayani Narasimha Reddy were among those who paid their tributes to the late leader in Gandhi Bhavan.
