Committee of locals to look after security of disputed site
Faizabad: The district police has started a novel experiment to protect the disputed site in Ayodhya from terrorist attacks by sharing the responsibility of its security with a committee of locals comprising Hindus and Muslims.
The two communities of Ayodhya have been brought together to manage the Central Awareness Committee entrusted with the task of ensuring the safety of the disputed acquired area of Babri Masjid/Ram Janmabhoomi against terrorist threats, the security in-charge of Ayodhya and SP (City) G.N. Khanna said.
Mr. Khanna, who also described it as an exercise in communal harmony, said with the safety of the disputed acquired area assigned to local people, maximum security of the site had been assured.
“We were uncomfortable about maintaining the maximum security of the disputed acquired area but by making the public responsible for it we are assured of it,” Mr. Khanna said. — PTI
