Kharge, Dharam Singh blamed for backwardness of Gulbarga

Yeddyurappa accuses them of failing to meet the aspirations of the people

‘Jewargi taluk

Congress isolating minorities, says Yeddyurappa

JEWARGI (GULBARGA DISTRICT): Former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday blamed Congress leaders, particularly N. Dharam Singh and M. Mallikarjun Kharge, for the backwardness of the district.

Addressing a rally as part of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Jana Jagruthi Yatra here, he sought to know what the two leaders had done for the development of the district in their long political innings from 1972.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said Jewargi taluk, which Mr. Dharam Singh had represented in the State Assembly for eight terms, ranked last in the development index of the latest Human Development Index report published by the Government. Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged that these Congress leaders had failed to meet the aspirations of the people of the district though they had held important portfolios in the Government.

Mr. Dharam Singh owed an explanation to the people on the reasons for the non-commencement of work on the Jewargi Food Park and the delay in getting Central clearance for an airport in Gulbarga, he said.

“During my seven-day tenure as the Chief Minister, I cleared proposals for airports in Gulbarga, Shimoga and Bijapur,” he said.

He accused the Congress of dividing people on the communal lines and isolating the minorities for political gains.

Trap

The minorities should not fall into the trap of the Congress and consider the steps taken by the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government for their development, he said.

President of the State unit of the BJP Sadananda Gowda spoke.
