Collector deploys special squad at Sabarimala

Staff Reporter

Sabarimala: District Collector Raju Narayanaswamy has deployed a special price monitoring squad headed by Thiruvalla Sub-Collector Pranab Jyotinath on the Pampa-Sannidhanam traditional trekking path following allegations of fleecing of pilgrims at various shops en-route. Mr. Narayanaswamy said directions had been issued to cancel the licence of those shops that failed to comply with the direction to sell articles as per the price fixed for each item.

He said that the price monitoring squad would cancel the licence of such shops and send the action taken report to the TDB for ratification. The Collector also directed the Legal Metrology Department to be more vigilant against fleecing of pilgrims at Sabarimala and at the various base camps. It is alleged that certain shops charge Rs.18 to 20 for a plantain.
