SINDAGI (BJAPUR DiSTRICT): The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has appealed to the people of the State to give a clear mandate to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming Assembly elections. Addressing a Janajagruti rally organised by the party’s taluk unit here on Sunday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the party aimed to develop the State on the lines of Gujarat with regard to developmental activities. He said the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) had failed to deliver goods on the expected lines though they were given enough chances. There was no internal democracy in them. The interest of families was supreme in these parties, while the BJP was a democratic institution which had its own vision for the development of the State and the country. This time, the BJP deserved a chance, he added. Mr. Yeddyurappa said the party formulated schemes and taken measures that benefited about 58 lakh families. “Sandhya Suraksha”, “Bhagya Lakshmi”, distribution of bicycles to high school students, ban on arrack and lotteries, were some of them, he said. However, the Janata Dal (Secular), its partner in the previous coalition Government, was claming credit for it. On non-release of compensation for sugarcane farmers for uncrushed sugarcane, Mr. Yeddyurappa demanded the Governor to initiate necessary steps and warned that his party would resort to an agitation if the demand was not met. State BJP chief D.V Sadanand Gowda held the Congress responsible for the backward state of the country. State unit general secretary Shobha Karandlaje, Bijapur MP Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal, State executive member Srikant Kulkarni, the former Minister Appasaheb Pattanashetti, district unit president Vithal Katakdonda and MLC Shashil Namoshi spoke. District Yuva Morcha president Kashinath Masabinal presented swords to Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Gowda.
