Bhubaneswar: Trade union leader and secretary of Orissa Unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) Dutta passed away here following prolonged illness. The veteran leader, who was undergoing treatment for heart and lungs ailment, died of a brain stroke at Capital hospital on Saturday, SUCI sources said here. Dutta, who joined revolutionary activities during his school days in 1947, was associated with SUCI since its formation in 1948. He was asked to look after organisational activities in Orissa in 1956 when he took up the cause of employees of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) at Rourkela. Dutta’s body was brought to the SUCI office here where people from all walks of life, including Left leaders, paid homage. – PTI
