BERHAMPUR: The three-day Gajapati festival concluded at Parlakhemundi in Gajapati district on Saturday. Minister for Culture, IT and Energy Suryanarayan Patro was the chief guest. A book titled ‘Jatiprana Apanna Parichha’ written by Purnachandra Mohapatra was released on the occasion. It was a biography of Apanna Parichha, a Gandhian of Parlakhemundi. Anurag Nayak, a four-year-old boy, won the appreciation of the audience for his chaste chanting of slokas from the Vedas. Most of the performances on the concluding day of the festival were by tribal troupes from different parts of the State. ‘Dhemsa’ dance of Nowrangpur, ‘Ghumura’ dance of Munsingi, ‘Chadheia’ dance by a troupe from Labarsingh were part of the show. Bhangra, Manipuri and Purulia Chau dance forms were also performed. It was felt that the cultural festival organised in a tribal district was not marketed well by the Tourism Department. There were very few in the audience from outside the district.
