Andhra Pradesh
The managements of various temples in the State have decided not to give rooms or cottages for hire to single persons. The authorities contend that the move is aimed at checking suicides in cottages and rooms. But suicides have taken place even when the cottages were rented out to families. I had noticed that many senior citizens who came alone to Annavaram and Kanipakam were not allotted any rooms. These aged persons had to spend all the night in open places braving the cold. Hence, I request the Endowments Department to reconsider the decision. B. V. S. Sastry Bapatla Street dog menaceStreet dogs have become a nuisance to the residents of Kavali. The municipal authorities have not taken any measure to control the dog menace. Dog bites and non-availability of anti-rabies vaccine in the town have become common features. It is important to mention here that almost all important trains arrive in Kavali around midnight. The passengers are afraid of reaching their homes from railway station, as street dogs chase them in every street. Innumerable representations to municipal authorities and revenue authorities are in vain. A. Venkaiah Kavali Let Chiru take a decisionMatinee idol Chiranjeevi has aptly spelt out his indecisive attitude, which has made the people campaigning for his entry into politics to maintain silence. Some persons belonging to the actor’s community are pampering him to enter into politics. I’m one of those who admire him for his rare talent in acting, and for his humane services through blood and eye banks. But, politics is quite different. Chiranjeevi can take a decision himself. N. V. Rama Rao Bhimavaram A boon for poor studentsThere has been an unprecedented rush for admissions into job-oriented courses like medical transcription, tourism, biotechnology, and bio-informatics, as there is a significant employment potential in these courses. Consequently, government and private colleges have abnormally increased fees for admissions into these courses. Students from rural areas are deprived of admissions into these courses as they come from poor economic background. At this juncture, the Government’s proposal to extend ‘Paavala Vaddi’ loans for higher education would be a blessing for poor students. I. Subhash Samuel Ulavapadu Close belt shopsIt is reported that there are about 6,450 wine shops, 1,250 bars and restaurants and one lakh belt shops in the State. Further, it is found that some of the bars and restaurants are located nearer to colleges. Teenagers and youth get attracted to liquor when they pass before these bars and restaurants every day. In view of such a dangerous possibility, the Government has to contemplate enacting a special legislation to prohibit the sale of intoxicating drinks, and, in the meanwhile, necessary stern measures should be taken to close the belt shops.
