For the deserving: Minister for Local Administration M.K.Stalin distributing welfare aid to a beneficiary near Krishnagiri on Sunday. Krishnagiri: The long-pending Hogenakkal Water Supply and Sanitation project will soon become a reality, Minister for Local Administration M.K. Stalin said on Sunday. Launching the sixth phase of land distribution to landless poor at Alapatti near here, he said that a high-level delegation from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation held several rounds of discussions with officials on the implementation of the project. Final approvalMr. Stalin said that the State Government was waiting for final approval from Japan. It was likely to enter into an agreement with the bank shortly on the execution of the project. The Government had revised the total cost of the project from Rs.925 crore to Rs.1,334 crores. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would lay the foundation stone for the project at a function to be organised in the district in the first week of February. Works were proceeding at a fast pace on the execution of the Rs.616 crores Ramanathapuram Combined Water Supply Scheme. The scheme would be commissioned before the stipulated period of two years. DistributedMr. Stalin said that about 1,33,688 acres of free land were distributed to 1,16,508 poor across the State so far. Apart from this, the State Government had distributed 2.5 lakh house site pattas to people who were living on porombok lands for the past 10 years. In Krishnagiri district, about 2,701 acres of land worth Rs.6.14 crore were distributed to 3,818 small and marginal farmers. About 546.77 acres of land would be distributed to 756 beneficiaries in the district during the sixth phase. The Government had distributed free house site pattas to 5,030 beneficiaries in the district so far.Mr. Stalin inaugurated the second business process outsourcing unit-cum-call centre at Alapatti, inaugurated new buildings constructed at Rs.24.92 crore and distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.13.94 crore to 9,389 beneficiaries. Krishnagiri MP E.G.Sugavanam, MLAs T. Senguttuvan, T. Meghanathan, Gopinath, Collector Santhosh Babu also spoke.
