CPI leader alleges irregularities in essentials’ supply Dealers asked to name ‘corrupt’ officials VIZIANAGARAM: Irregular distribution of essentials and underweighment in FP shops and delay in supply of LPG were among other issues raised by elected representatives, leaders of political parties and community organisers at the Food Advisory Committee meeting held at ZP conference hall here on Sunday. The FP Shop Dealers’ Association president B. Venkateswara Rao (S.Kota) sought increase in commission. He alleged that FP shop dealers had to favour officials at every stage and also pay loading charges to hamalis at lifting points.” He levelled the allegations after CPI leader B. Suri Babu pointed out irregularities in supply of essential commodities through FP shops. Mr. Suri Babu demanded that the government either increase commission or pay monthly honorarium to dealers to stop such malpractices. Joint Collector and Vice-Chairman of the committee M. Jagan Mohan, while saying that it was not informed to him at the dealers’ meeting held recently, asked dealers to name officials for stringent action and said there was no need to pay towards transport and loading. MLA’s chargePadala Aruna, TDP MLA, alleged that Rs. 2,150 was being collected under ‘Deepam’ scheme against Rs. 1,750 (stove -- Rs. 1250, gas cylinder -- Rs. 300, tube – Rs. 150 and installation charges Rs. 50) from Velugu groups and demanded action against the Assistant Project Manager (Velugu), Gajapathinagaram. The Joint Collector appointed M.V. Govinda Rajulu, RDO, to make an inquiry into the allegations for action. On the delay in supply of refills, he said that the dealers were instructed to supply gas within three days from the date of registration. Of the sanctioned 8,853 LPG connections under the scheme, 6,358 were already delivered and the balance would be cleared in the next couple of days, he added. Ration cardsWith regard to biometric ration cards, the Joint Collector said that a total 18,226 applications for new cards were received from all the 34 mandals in the district. Of them 5,642 cards in 15 mandals were so far issued and 8,528 cards pending. He said arrangements were being made to clear the pending cards by the first week of next month. In the urban areas the cards would be issued after the new software was received, he added. Zilla Parishad Chairperson B. Appala Naidu appealed to dealers to supply essentials in time to cardholders and instructed tehsildars to monitor the distribution. S.A. Narasimha Murty, DSO, Mohan Babu, DM (Civil Supplies) and G. Vasudeva Rao, in-charge CEO, were present.
