Two held for internet fraud

Lucknow: Two persons allegedly involved in internet fraud and cheating people of hefty amount were on Sunday arrested by the special task force of Uttar Pradesh police from Ajmer and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan.

Abdul Kadir alias Abdul Kayyum and Deepak alias Deependra used to trap their clients by sending them e-mails luring them in the name of their selection for a lottery prize of two million pound, DSP, STF, Arvind Chaturvedi said.

They also demanded money from the parties in the name of courier and VAT charges and doing insurance prior to transferring their prize amount.

The two also sent a fake letter in the name of Reserve Bank of India to the clients claiming that the prize amount had been received and demand money for transfer of funds, Mr. Chaturvedi said.

A case of fraud has been registered against them at Hazratganj police station here and on investigation the two were arrested.

A number of bank accounts, cheque books, ATM cards and mobiles were recovered from the possession of the two, he said. — PTI
