Chandigarh: Former champion Bangalore Hi-Fliers edged past Sher-e-Jallandhar 2-1 to become the first team to enter the semifinals of the fourth Premier Hockey League here on Sunday. Hi-Fliers completed its engagements in the league winning five of the six matches and currently top the table with 14 points. Shers, on the other hand, remained on five points from as many matches. To make the last-four stage it not only has to win its last match against holder Orissa Steelers, but also hope for others to lose to make an outside entry. Hi-Fliers drew the first blood converting the third and last of its penalty corners through Len Aiyappa in the 47th minute. It increased the lead in the 67th minute when Korean You Hyo-sik scored a field goal. Shers pulled one back in the 69th minute when Gurvinder Singh deflected home a long diagonal cross into the circle from the left. Dynamos throughMeanwhile, local favourite Chandigarh Dynamos scraped past Maratha Warriors 1-0 to book its berth in the semifinals. Dynamos still has a match on hand against Chennai Veerans and has 12 points from five matches, while Warriors remained on seven points after five outings. It has to beat Hyderabad Sultans in its last match to make the semifinals. Sher Singh scored the match-winner in the 26th minute.
