Karthikeyan sizzles

NEYVELI: Karthikeyan scalped five wickets as Strangers CC defeated Iruppu CC by 131 runs in a Canara Bank-Cuddalore DCA first division league match here.

The scores: At Neyveli: Majestic CC 184 in 37.2 overs (Ganesh 47, Radhakrishnan four for 23) bt Metro CC 159 in 32.3 overs (Selvaraj 53, Dinakaran four for 38); Strangers CC 229 in 39.2 overs (Ramachandran 56, Vijayaveeran 50) bt Iruppu CC 98 in 23.1 overs (Karthikeyan five for 22); Metro CC 243 in 36.4 overs (Ranjith 41) bt Challenger CC 125 in 25.1 overs; Sudhakar CC 148 in 33 overs lost to Blue Moon CC 152 for nine in 39 overs (Kumarasamy 40 n.o.).

Santhosh wins title

M.R.S. Santhosh, with six points from as many rounds, won the title in the Open category in the chess tournament conducted by the Vijay Anandh Chess Academy in Tiruchi on Saturday.

Chess tournaments

The Karur Chess Association will conduct the 19th State-level Open tournament for the R. Neelaveni Ammal Memorial Rolling Cup and 4th State-level junior chess tournament for the A. Veerappan Chettiar Memorial Cup on January 5 and 6 at V.N.C Mahal, Karur. The tournament for the juniors will be conducted in under-15, 12, 10 and 8 age categories for both boys and girls.
