Vignesh SC, Tamilan CC in title clash

Madurai: Vignesh SC (Dindigul) and Tamilan CC (Karaikudi) entered the final of the sixth annual Sun Brothers Trophy State-level knockout cricket tournament at Usilampatti on Saturday.

The scores: Vignesh SC 180 in 24.4 overs (Vinoth Kumar 63, Mohamed Rafik 42, Anand four for 23) bt Olympus 141 in 24.1 overs.

Sivakasi Town 122 in 25 overs (Sornaguru 41) lost to Tamilan CC 125 for one in 16.4 overs (Kalairaj 65, Siva 41).

Maheswaran wins title

P. Maheswaran, last year’s runner-up and former under-19 State champion, won the title in the 11th State-level open chess tournament for the Pearl City Trophy at Tuticorin on Sunday.

Mr. T. Sargunam, General Manager (Safety), Sterlitie Industries gave away the prizes.

India Cements wins

India Cements CC defeated Double Star CC by 14 runs in the Canara Bank-Tirunelveli DCA first division cricket league at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores: First division: India Cements 216 in 35 overs (Nirmal Jeyaraj 65) bt Double Star 202 for nine in 35 overs (Karthik 80). Second division: Apex 108 for seven in 20 overs (Nazeer four for 29) lost to Wings 109 for eight in 17.3 overs (Muthubalagan 43, Selvam four for 25).

Stephen scalps five

Stephen’s five for 15 helped Samiyar Thottam CC score a two-wicket win over Kodai CC by 27 runs in the Dindigul-DCA second division cricket league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores: Second division: Samiyar Thottam 133 in 21.5 overs (Subramani six for 24) bt Kodai 106 for eight in 22 overs (Stephen five for 15). Third division: Infant Jesus CC 92 for seven in 20 overs lost to Yuvaraj CC 95 for two in 10 overs (Padmanabhan 42).
