Sushma wins gold

AHMEDABAD: Sushma Singh of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) held on to her nerves in the final before winning the gold medal in the women’s sports pistol event, in the 51st National shooting championship here.

Sushma, who finished 10th in the Asian championship in Kuwait early this month, shot 576 in the qualification and made it to the final as the second-placed shooter, behind Annuraj Singh of Indian Airlines.

In the final though, Sushma scored 196.6 to clinch the gold with a total of 772.6, to better the overall National record by 0.7 points.

The record was held by Aneesa Sayeed, who had set 771.9 at the last Nationals in Indore.

Sports pistol ( Junior men): 1. Gurpreet Singh (Army) 576, 2. Hambir Singh (Army) 568 (49), Amanpreet Singh (IA) 568 (45).

Women: 1. Sushma Singh (CISF) (576, 196.6) 772.6, 2. Annuraj Singh (IA) (577, 191.9) 768.9, 3. Shweta Chaudhary (ONGC) (567, 196.9) 763.9.

Junior women: 1. Upasana Parasrampuria (Mah) 565, 2. Ruby Tomar (Pun) 552, 3. Rahi (Mah) 549.
