Crucial KEA, COMED-K meet today

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Representatives of the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) will meet members of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges–Karnataka (COMED-K) on Monday to decide the seat-sharing ratio and the fee structures for admissions to government and private medical courses in the State.

The issue has been a bone of contention between KEA and COMED-K and the meeting on Monday will determine the fate of applicants to medical colleges in 2008.

The meeting might not be such an easy task after all with the COMED-K insisting on a revised ratio where the fee burden on the COMED-K students can be reduced. “The scenario for the medical college seat matrix is different, considering that there are more engineering seats. The seat matrix is not acceptable to us,” said S. Kumar, executive secretary, COMED-K.

In a meeting held here on Saturday, the Government decided to retain the seat-sharing arrangement between the private and government colleges for undergraduate admissions to engineering courses.

Last year, the Karnataka Examination Authority was allotted 55 per cent of the engineering seats. In the absence of a politically elected Government, the meeting was chaired by the Governor’s Adviser P.P. Prabhu, and was attended by 30 representatives of KEA, private and government colleges from the State.
