Chitradurga: President of the Backward Classes wing of the KPCC Umashri has asked the party activists to check the “saffronisation” trend in the State. Communal forces which were trying to strengthen their base in the State should never be allowed to succeed, she said. Speaking after inaugurating district-level backward community convention at the Rangamandira here on Sunday, she said that in the name of religion, communal elements were brainwashing innocent people, mainly from the backward communities. With regard to the induction of women in the wing, she said the Congress had decided to give them more opportunities. Ms. Umashri expressed unhappiness over the denial of ministerial berths to women. “While allowing women to contest in reserved constituencies, political parties were, unfortunately, reluctant to induct them in the Cabinet,” she said and added that women should participate actively in every sphere. Congress district president R. Manjunath was present.
