HOSPET (BELLARY DISTRICT): “All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi will decide on whether to induct senior leaders such as the former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash into the party,” Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said Mr. Prakash was keen on joining the party and he had already held discussions with senior Congress leaders such as Oscar Fernandes. Another round of talks was likely to be held between Mr. Prakash and senior party leaders before a final decision was taken. “Ultimately, the decision of Ms. Sonia Gandhi will prevail,” he said, and added that the party had not imposed any conditions on his admission. He said the party was so huge that individual identities would cease to matter upon admission. With regard to the party projecting any particular individual as its chief ministerial candidate in the coming elections, Mr. Kharge said no such practice existed in the Congress. He refuted claims of dissidence in the party and added that steps would be taken to solve the problems in the Bellary district party unit.
