‘Lift ban on People’s March’

HYDERABAD: Revolutionary Writers’ Association (Virasam) has demanded that the Central Government lift the ban imposed on People’s March published from Kerala and release the publication’s editor P. Govindan Kutty.

In a statement, Virasam executive committee member P. Varavara Rao condemned the ban of People’s March on the ground that it was an organ of CPI (Maoist) and said the journal was legally registered under the Newspapers Registration Act. It was not an organ of the CPI (Maoist) and the ban on the extremist outfit could not be applied mechanically to the journal even if it published news of and about Maoists. Stating that every newspaper had right to publish views under the RTI, he said the ban imposed on CPI (Maoist) itself was undemocratic.
