Two lakh posts to be filled in two years: CM Touches upon jobs needed in private sector HYDERABAD: The Government has decided to declare 2008 as the year of employment generation in order to clear the vacancies that had piled up over the past few years. After devoting the first three years in taking up massive irrigation projects to bail out the crisis-ridden farm sector and introducing the innovative rural health insurance scheme Arogyasri, the Government has decided to focus on employment generation in 2008. In an open letter to the people of Andhra Pradesh on the eve of the New Year, the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said the State Government would launch a movement to fill all the vacant posts. “The Government plans to fill at least 2 lakh posts in the next two years,” Dr. Reddy said and added that so far 2.50 lakh jobs had been created in Information Technology, ITES and other sectors. With encouraging economic growth, more than 20 lakh jobs would be needed in the private sector, Dr. Reddy said and pointed out that the Government was keen on filling at least 10 lakh jobs in the private sector under the Rajiv Udyogasri scheme. The Chief Minister said since the return of the Congress to power, the Government had consistently taken up developmental and welfare programmes, which had been sadly neglected by the previous regime. In the irrigation sector alone lakhs of acres of additional ayacut had been created and more than 4.33 lakh acres of land was distributed to the landless poor. Referring to the Rajiv Arogyasri programme, he said so far 10,000 people had undergone surgeries for various ailments. Talking about the ambitious housing programme, he said under the Rajiv Swagruha, houses for middle class people would be constructed on 13,000 hectares of land in 94 municipalities in the State. The programme at present entails construction of 50,000 houses out of 1.75 lakh applications. The second phase of Rajiv Swagruha would be launched in October next year. For the first time, the State Bank of India has come forward to provide housing loans at 9 per cent only, he added.
