Introduce two-driver system

Accidents on highways are on the rise despite the government taking some remedial measures. Rash and negligent driving and non-observance of traffic rules may be the root cause of these road accidents. Widening of roads, providing convenient road curves and speed breakers at select points are necessary to prevent road accidents to some extent. In addition, the government should make it mandatory to introduce two-driver system in vehicles carrying goods and going to long distances so as to avoid stress and strain for a single driver. Shift duties between two drivers will yield expected results to some extent.

Take the duo into custody

The brutal murder of Ayesha Meera, a 19-year old student, after being raped by a maniac in a women’s hostel in Ibrahimpatnam a couple of days ago has brought to light the grave fact that women’s hostels too are no longer safe for girl students.

The hostel management has miserably failed to take measures to provide security to the hostel inmates. The police should give no credence to the hostel warden and his wife’s claims that that they never allowed visitors into the hostel. Instead, the police should take the duo into custody so that they would spill the beans.

TTD, please explain!

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board chairman B. Karunakar Reddy’s statement that allowing Art of Living guru Ravishankar through the ‘mahadwaram’ of the temple for a darshan of the lord was not wrong is highly deplorable. Mr. Karunakar Reddy is pointing out that the TTD board passed a unanimous resolution in 2004 to give special privilege to Ravishankar. But, he failed to define what the special privilege is meant. The TTD also should explain whether it is enough to have a wide following across the world to have a special status? There are many spiritual leaders of the same stature. Will the TTD give similar status to all of them? Ultimately, it is common devotees who suffer because of these VVIPs.

Issue guidelines

A corporate college in Koritepadu area of Guntur city has made the students, who were absent on Christmas, to sweep the classroom floor and wash the toilets the next day as an act of disciplining.

According to media reports, the GVR&S College declared a holiday only for Christian students and asked all others to report for special study classes. These type of punishments build unwarranted pressure on the students. Declaring holiday to only one section of college will also create animosity among the students.

It is highly amusing that the officials did not respond to it. The government should, at least now, respond, and issue guidelines to the corporate colleges and take action against erring colleges.
