Andhra Pradesh
The inter-city Janmabhoomi Express runs late without reason. Also, barring four reserved coaches C 1 to C4, the seating accommodation in rest of the II class compartments is wooden planks as I noticed during my recent journey by the train. The C1 coach (WSC 958612) was made by RCF in November 1997 and contained instructions in Oriya, Hindi and English. Needless to say these coaches were discarded ones from Orissa. There is also no pantry car. The deplorable condition of the coaches is a reflection of the continued apathy of our people’s representatives to the plight of the travelling public. East Coast Railway has two options – either to replace the entire rake of Janmabhoomi Express with a new one like Ratnachal Express or handover the maintenance of this train to South Central Railway and save passengers from misery. Y.R. Reddy Visakhapatnam Stray dog menaceOf late, there is an increase in the number of stray dog bites. The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is coming in the way of curbing this nuisance. To fulfil its noble objectives, all the stray dogs may be collected at left with the SPCA office-bearers and the general public may contribute to the animal upkeep. G.V.S. Lakshmi Visakhapatnam No facilitiesThe two-decade old Kanithi Colony continues to be neglected without proper roads and open drains. Now it is merged with the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation and the GVMC should take immediate measures to improve the conditions. V.S. Rao Visakhapatnam Paddy support priceThe Minimum Support Price (MSP) is fixed by the Government basing on the recommendations of the commission for agricultural costs and prices taking into account the factors like cost of cultivation and yield of the crop. If the MSP of paddy, which is the staple food in Andhra Pradesh, is enhanced to Rs.1,000, the price of rice in the retail market will go up by Rs. 30 a kg which adversely affects the life of common man as there is no control over the retail price of rice in the open market. Therefore, the arbitrary increase of MSP for paddy will result in creating unrest among the consumers and the political parties should keep in mind the financial constrains of the common man while resorting to any agitation. B.V. Krishna Murty Chelluru (East Godavari)
