WARM GREETINGS: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphi-u Rio in Chennai on Sunday. CHENNAI: The Union Government should go to the rescue of Nagas living in Myanmar and influence the regime there to recognise them on the lines of what is done in India, Neiphi-u Rio, Nagaland Chief Minister, said here on Sunday. Emerging from a brief meeting with his Tamil Nadu counterpart M. Karunanidhi at Gopalapuram residence, Mr. Rio told reporters that a third of Nagas was living in Myanmar and they had not been recognised. On his trip to Chennai, Mr. Rio, leader of the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF), said he came here to seek the “blessings and support” of Mr. Karunanidhi, who, he said, was the “father of regional parties” in the country. He said his State would face the Assembly elections in February. As for the insurgency problem in Nagaland, the Chief Minister said the north-eastern State was now peaceful with the ceasefire and political dialogue. In view of the “improvement in law and order,” the tourists flow had gone up. Inadequate infrastructure was the major problem and the Government was taking steps to build the tourism sector.
