Shanmugam dismisses charges against Rangasamy

“Chief Minister does not show bias while implementing schemes”

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president, P. Shanmugam, on Sunday dismissed the charges levelled by a section of leaders against the Chief Minister that he was favouring his constituency while implementing welfare schemes and providing government jobs.

Terming the accusation “unfounded and baseless”, he said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had catered to the needs of all sections of the people and did not show any bias towards any constituency while implementing schemes.

When reporters asked his comments about AICC general secretary V. Narayanasamy’s letter to the Chief Secretary seeking particulars about schemes implemented in the Thattanchavady constituency, represented by Mr. Rangasamy, Mr. Shanmugam said he did not wish to indulge “in a war of words” with Mr. Narayanasamy on the issue. “I do not wish to react to such acts.”

Stating that his comments were not a reaction to any particular incident, Mr. Shanmugam said “I have been hearing the charge against the Chief Minister made by a few Congress men and opposition leaders for some time. It’s unfounded and baseless.” He listed out various institutions, both Government and private, established in different constituencies to dispute the allegation.

Mr. Shanmugam sought to know why those complaining about the setting up of the Government Medical College at Thattanchavady did not raise the issue when the project was under consideration or at the time of commencement of the scheme.

Asked whether he would take up the issue with the Congress High Command, the PCC chief said if necessary he would appraise the leadership.

Mr. Shanmugam said he would not hesitate to take action whoever “mighty” they may be.
