Manoj cracks unbeaten century

HYDERABAD: An unbeaten century by Manoj Kumar (126, 71b, 14x4, 5x6) helped St. Peter’s High School post a 98-run win over Mahesh Vidya Bhavan High School ‘B’ in the Gold Drop inter-schools cricket tournament (under-15) at Shivrampally here on Sunday.

The scores:

SFHS 42 (Rakesh four for 13, Venkatesh five for 16) lost to Mahesh Vidya Bhavan HS ‘A’ 45 for no loss.

St. Peter’s 190 for no loss (Manoj Kumar 126 not out, Shaibaaz Tumbi 50 not out) bt Mahesh Vidya Bhavan HS ‘B’ 92 for seven.

Boston HS 108 (Soni Prakash 33, Shanker four for 21) lost to Good Will HS 111 for three (Shivshanth 57 not out).

Three share lead

Vikramjith Singh outwitted P.V.V. Seshu to share the lead with two others — C.R.G. Krishna and M.Y. Raju — with five points at the end of the fifth round of the Medikonduri Krishna Murthy memorial State open chess tournament, organised by Dronacharya Academy here.

The results: Vikramjith Singh (5) bt P.V.V. Seshu (4); C.R.G. Krishna (5) bt Amitpal Singh (4); M.Y. Raju (5) bt P. Satyanarayana (4); K. Karthik Babu (3.5) lost to T.V.R. Upendra (4.5); G. Janaki for Australian Open junior tennis

Gunuganti Janaki, an 11th standard student from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, will be taking part in the Australian Open juniors tennis championship from January 20 to 26, according to a press release.

The talented youngster will also take part in the two ITF Juniors tournaments — Loy Yang Power Traralgon International and the Optus Nottinghill International — before the Australian Open.

Double for Krishnaiah

Krishnaiah bagged a double, winning the singles and doubles badminton titles in the GHMC sports meet for its officers and employees here on Sunday.

The results: Badminton: Singles: Krishnaiah bt Dhanunjaya Reddy 23-21, 21-18; Doubles: Dhanunjaya Reddy & Krishnaiah bt Rammohan Rao & Ravi Kiran 25-15, 25-11.

Kabaddi: Final: Central Zone bt East Zone 39-17; Semifinals: Central bt Head Office 45-25; East bt West 32-14.

Cricket: Final: Head Office 107 for four lost to North Zone 110 for three (Anand 66).

Volleyball: Semifinals: North bt Head Office 25-14, 25-12; South bt Central 25-11, 25-22.
