IOB, SAI ‘A’ post wins

Chennai: Notwithstanding the embarrassment of being pushed into deficit twice, Indian Overseas Bank managed to claim full points with a 4-2 win over Chennai Port Trust in the senior division hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Sunday. Rajnarayan sounded the alarm bells for IOB with a fluent goal midway through the first half and CPT held on till Saravanakumar slotted in a penalty corner for the equaliser. Before half-time CPT was ahead again, Nishant taking credit from a penalty corner.

Senthil shines

It was left to veteran Senthil to restore parity after half-time and then put IOB on the road to victory. After Muthukumaran converted a stroke, Senthil struck again to register a 4-2 victory.

In another match, SAI ‘A’ defeated Food Corporation of India 3-1 after leading 2-1 at the break. Lakshmi Prasanth struck from a penalty corner to hoist the lead for SAI, which was doubled by Satish Kumar midway through.

FCI reduced the leeway when Nanadakumar netted, but seven minutes before close Manivachagam put the issue beyond doubt with a penalty corner conversion.
