Vijayaraghavan interacts with participants of State School IT Fest at the Technopark Honorary director of the Centre for Bioinformatics to lead IT quiz on Monday THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The likelihood of a person holding an important job in the future is critically dependent on his ability to use computers, founder-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Technopark G. Vijayaraghavan has said. He was interacting with the school children participating in the ongoing State School IT Fest at the Technopark on Sunday. Today a person who is unable to read and write can never hope to get a good job. In the years to come the same will be true of computer literacy, he added. “A farmer, if he so wishes, can use computers today to know the prices of his produces. Tomorrow even a driver should be able to use the GPS,” he pointed out. One student wanted to know why so many young IT professional die. Was it not owing to work pressure, the student wanted to know. To this, Mr. Vijayaraghavan replied that in order to arrive at a correct conclusion on this issue one should take the total number of employees in the government Secretariat and the total numbers in the IT industry and then compare the number of deaths. Asked for a show of hands for the profession they intended to chose, many students raised their hands in favour of the engineering and medical professions. Mr. Vijayaraghavan pointed out that there are many other avenues of employment in the job market today and advised the students to choose their profession with care and not to be fooled by the ‘game of numbers.’ WinnersThe second day of the IT fest also saw the declaration of the results of the digital painting competitions held on Saturday. K. S. Jithindev of the PSHS Pallipuram Cherthala walked away with the first prize. The second prize went to Suparna S. Nair of the Presentation HSS Chevayoor, Kozhikode and the third prize to Aswino Signi of the government HSS Thamarssery, Neeleswaram. In the multimedia presentation competition the first position went to G.S. Vaishak of the Government HSS Venjarammoodu. While the second prize went to Asif Iqbal Kakkassery of the Mathilakam St. Joseph’s HS, Inrinjalakkuda, the third prize went to Anita J. Pallath of the Carmel Girls HSS, Thiruvananthapuram. On Monday, honorary director of the Centre for Bioinformatics, University of Kerala Achuth Sankar S. Nair will lead IT quiz.
