Surrendered militant, wife shot dead

Guwahati: A surrendered militant of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and his wife were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in lower Assam’s Nalbari district on Sunday.

The police said Bijoy Hazarika succumbed to his injuries at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, while Anita Hazarikia died on the spot. The couple had been riding a motorcycle from Khatikuchi village towards Nalbari town.

The police suspect that the attack was the handiwork of the ULFA.
