BANGALORE: The Federation of University and College Teachers Association in Karnataka (FUCTAK) on Saturday urged the Governor to release salary for the teaching and non-teaching staff of 26 colleges in the state. The federation has also said that the former Education Minister, Basavaraj S. Horatti, MLCs Puttanna, M.P. Nadagouda, Maritibbe Gowda and Srikante Gowda, have promised the teachers that they will make every effort to redress the grievances of the staff. It has said that the Legislative Council Chairman B.K. Chandrashekhar has extended his moral support by participating in the meeting of the federation here on Saturday. Teaching and non-teaching staff in these 26 colleges have not received their salary for the last three months as the colleges have been graded “C” by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Federation president A.M. Narahari said that according to NAAC, “C” Grade denotes satisfactory status and refuted the argument that colleges should get “B” grade. He said the State has been a pioneer in approaching NAAC along with Maharashtra for accreditation. While 99 per cent of colleges in the State have gone through the accreditation process, not even 25 per cent of colleges at the national level are accredited, he said. Members of the federation also met the Governor.
