Seat matrix retained

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Government has decided to retain the seat-sharing arrangement between the private and government colleges for undergraduate admissions to medical and dental colleges.

Last year, the medical seats in the State were in the ratio of 40:60 and dental seats 35:65 between the government and the private colleges respectively.

“This seat matrix will be retained and there will be no changes in the fee structures for seats in medical and dental colleges,” said P.P. Prabhu, Adviser to the Governor, who chaired a meeting here on Monday attended by representatives of KEA, COMED-K and several private and government colleges.

In minority institutions, the seat-sharing ratio, both for medical and dental in these colleges, has been fixed at 75 (management quota) and 25 (government quota).

Of the 60 per cent of seats allotted to COMED-K, 40 per cent will be open for all students without any quotas, 15 per cent for NRI students and five per cent for institutional preference.

Fee structure

The upper limit for fees will be Rs. 3.25 lakh in private medical colleges and Rs. 2.35 lakh in dental colleges. This year, there has been an addition of two more government medical colleges, increasing the number to 10. The KEA will have 40 per cent of the seats in private colleges for students from the State with a single slab fee of Rs. 35,000 for medical courses and Rs. 25,000 for dental courses.
