In demand: Calendar sellers are doing brisk business as people usher in the New Year on Monday.

PUDUCHERRY: The year 2007 is now part of the past. And what better way for people to realise how quickly time flies by than a calendar. New Year is the time people get to choose from a range of calendars in the market. One of the most popular daily sheet calendars is the one with images of the Utsava moorthi of Sri Manakula Vinayakar in different ‘alankarams. In different sizes and with details of temple timings, ‘thidhi’, sunrise and sunset timings and a list of special celebrations, the calendar is available in shops outside the temple or at the shop inside the temple mandapam.

The Shilpataru Calendar of art events in the country has been brought out by a group of 12 artists — Ray Meeker, Chandra Pitchal, Kirti Chandak, Robi Ganguli, Bibekananda Santra, Keiko Mima, Akmal Husain, A. Vasudevan, Yvonne Artaud, Yann Pitchal, Antra Sinha and Ananta — all from Puducherry. It contains the works of the artists in colour and information on famous personalities.

“This is our second year and through the calendar, our works enter homes. Ours is a group of artists seeking to bring art and beauty into daily life ,” said Yann Pitchal, one of the artists. Copies of the calendar can be had from 14, Eswaran Koil Street.

From Auroville come three beautiful calendars, including the Unity in Diversity desk calendar made by Rolf Brokmeier. Shradhanjali, a simple hand-made calendar, is available at Auroville Boutique, Jawaharlal Nehru Street.
