KOCHI: Periyar Protection Forum and Tarangam Samskarika Vedi will jointly organise an environmental-human rights film festival here from January 3 to 5. The event is part of the forthcoming meet on protecting the natural ecology of the river. Jacob V. Lazar, programme co-ordinator, said that film-maker Kamal would inaugurate the programme at Changampuzha Park, Edappally, on January 3. Smrithi Paruthikad’s ‘Nilavilikal Nilakyathathu’ (on impact of pollution in Eloor), Kavitha Joshie’s ‘Untitled: Three Narratives’ (on the continuing resistance against the Army in the North East), and K. P. Sasi’s ‘Resisting Coastal Invasion’ (on the impact of globalisation on coastal population) would be screened. The films to be screened on January 4 include Pramod Gupta’s ‘Development at Gunpoint’ (on Nandigram), P.R. Sreekumar’s ‘Pambattam,’ M.A. Rahman’s ‘Arajeevithangalku Oru Swargam’ (on impact of pesticide spraying in Kasaragod) and ‘Silent Forest.’ Film-maker director K.G. George would inaugurate the valedictory of the film festival. P. Balan’s ‘18th Elephant,’ Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth,’ ‘The Power of Community’ and ‘Future of Food’ will be screened on the occasion.
